22. “Whipping Post” is a song by The Allman Brothers that was written by Greg Allman. The song is about a man who was betrayed by a lover to the point where he feels like he has been tied to a whipping post. The live version of the song which was included on their “At Filmore East” album, has been identified by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
