I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll
200. “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll” was recorded by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts in 1981. The song was originally recorded by the Arrows in 1975 and written by band members Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker as a knee-jerk response to the Rolling Stones “It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll”. The line “Put another dime in the jukebox baby” was out of date when Joan Jett recorded the song as the iconic music machine required a quarter in 1981, and would soon disappear altogether. I chose to date the illustration in a time when playing a song on a jukebox still cost a dime.
