Diamonds and Rust

241. In the mid-1960s, Before Dylan’s departure into electronic music, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan were considered the Queen and King of folk music. After their connection as a couple, Bob called up Joan from, what she believed was a phone booth, somewhere in the Midwest to commiserate. Joan wrote “Diamonds and Rust” to explain their past relationship.

“Well, you burst on the scene / Already a legend / The unwashed phenomenon / The original vagabond / You strayed into my arms / And there you stayed / Temporarily lost at sea …It's all come back too clearly / Yes, I loved you dearly / And if you're offering me diamonds and rust / I've already paid”

The song was Joan’s only second top 40 hit.
