Angel from Montgomery

168. John Prine was in his early 20’s when he assumed the persona of an old woman to write “Angel from Montgomery”. “I am an old woman / Named after my mother”. The song was included on his first album and highlights John’s unique ability as a songwriter, “If dreams were lightning / And thunder were desire / This old house would've burned down / A long time ago.” The song was also famously covered by Bonnie Raitt.
